Description

According to Savage and Armstrong (2008), the National and Community Service Trust Act 1993, defined service learning as, "Amethod where students learn through active participation in community service." Service learning is definitely different from volunteering for community service in that of skills, values, goals, standards, and knowledge. At the University of Louisiana Monroe, students enrolled in the Professional Block are required to complete 6-10 hours of service learning. This presentation conveys examples of how service learning has become part of the Professional Block and the rewards received from both university and classroom students.
