Description
As success builders, teacher candidates need an in-depth understanding of the multiple interactions and intricate transactions among factors that lead to high achievement. Developmental psychology courses present an opportunity to reinforce concepts, theories and dispositions related to teachers role in developing human potential (Santrock, 2012). Although GSU teacher candidates study classical theories of human development (Bandura, 1997; Bronfenbrenner, 1979/2000; Maslow, 1968/1987; Vygotsky, 1978) as well as the work of contemporary educators (Gay, 2003; Glasser, 1998; Kunjufu, J., 1986), the application of theory to practice is often lacking (Darling-Hammond, 2006). The case study in this presentation is a project the Reconstructing Lives Project designed to involve teacher candidates in an innovative application of human development theory.
