Description
Poor indoor air quality (IAQ ) can lead to ill-health conditions, such as asthma, and unsatisfactory academic performance in school settings. Improvements in IAQ can minimize asthma attacks, absenteeism, and nurse or physician visits, resulting in better attendance and higher test scores. The Tangipahoa Parish School system was offered these potential benefits through a federally-funded IAQ program, but without mandatory participation, few schools took advantage of the opportunity. We investigate the success and challenges of implementing the program in Tangipahoa Parish and present the findings from interviews, walkthrough surveys, parent surveys, and air quality measurements.
