Description

I consider my work an ongoing investigation of objects and our understanding of their role in everyday life. By extracting a moment from my surroundings, I become more aware of the relationship between objects, the space they occupy, and inevitably our relationship to them. These objects become relics or souvenirs, chalked with cultural and symbolic meaning, ultimately reflecting the identity of the people who own them. / Mainly using snapshots or borrowed images, my paintings are made with acrylic on hardboard panels. Although I intend to create an honest reproduction of my subject I am interested in leaving my hand present in the work. Saturated with themes of consumerism, leisure, and domestic life, my paintings are characterized by icing-like paint, open brushstrokes, and bright colors. I am influenced by artists such as Renoir, Rosenquist, Oldenburg, and Fischl. These artists not only affect the aesthetic nature of my art, but also the way I think as an artist. / /
