Description
Metal, screen, hot-glue and coffee filters. 2014 28" x 21" x 35". For "Float" I was purely focused on creating a piece that appeared to be complex and heavy yet was actually very light and airy. My intention for this piece was to bring the viewer a sense of weightlessness and purity. The skeleton of Float is made from welded pencil rod and screen-door mesh. I then, at random, began to hot glue folded coffee filters until the entire piece was covered. I used coffee filters for three reasons. For starters, coffee filters are extremely light. Secondly, the physical purpose of a coffee filter is to filter out what humans are not intended to consume. And thirdly, coffee filters can have a unique design if folded the correct way.
