Description
In 2010, Israel Luna’s "Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives" was accepted to the Tribeca Film Festival. A parody of slasher-horror movies, his transploitation film follows three transgender women as they brutally avenge the murders of their friends by violent homophobes. While GLAAD protested the films screening, stating, Anti-LGBT hate crimes do not translate into an exploitation film, Luna claimed that his movie is a revenge-fantasy that functions as a transgender narrative of empowerment. Both Lunas right to make the film and GLAAD s right to speak out against it are debated in this controversy over freedom of expression in the LGBT community.
