Description

Dentistry has moved from strictly focusing on health issues, to considering social confidence. To determine if dental treatments affect self-esteem, 105 participants completed a survey during their visit to a Natchitoches dental office. Questions included types of dental treatments administered, participant confidence regarding previous dental treatments, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Patient age differed between those seeking orthodontics, whitening, and bridges or crowns, but there was no significant difference in RSES between treatment groups or patient ages. Dental treatments may affect the aesthetic appeal of teeth but apparently not self-esteem, regardless of the treatment provided.
