Description
War II society and culture can be studied through the fashions of that period because styles and the industry were impacted directly by rationing laws and the movement of women into factories. In the postwar era, Christian Dior debuted a lavish new style that was radically different from the styles of the war years. His New Look line was enormously popular in part because the media championed domesticity and beautiful clothing in a push to encourage women to leave their factory jobs open for returning soldiers.
