Abstract

Heart of the Swamp follows the story of Austin, a transplant to a small swamp town in the Atchafalaya Basin, as he mourns the death of his lover, Dan, whose unsolved murder has put negative attention on him. While Austin struggles to keep his home within the community where his partner was so well loved, animals in the swamp begin dying en masse surrounding the mysterious, fortress-like power plant, Atlas Energy. Austin’s curiosity and attunement to nature lead him to uncover supernatural threats to both the swamp around him and the resolution of Dan’s murder case. From monsters to immortal soldiers, Atlas’s walls hold danger beyond Austin’s imagination.
